Taking governor’s race back to the future
By GORDON GLANTZ
THE TIMES-HERALD
Commentary

“In the 1950s, our post-World War II culture sat on the precipice of change we could believe in. And the law school of the University of Pennsylvania was surely a prime example of the pending collision of old and new visions.

“Set against this backdrop, the Ivy League campus that once restricted the number of Jewish and black students it permitted onto its hallowed grounds as students saw my father — a Jewish kid from South Philly — and an African-American named Hardy Williams become friends. . ..” Read more

After slow start, governor's race heats up in final days
By JOHN GUERRIERO
ERIE TIMES-NEWS

“For months, the campaign for Pennsylvania governor seemed to be a sleepy affair that hardly befitted the office that's been held by Ed Rendell, Tom Ridge and other well-known political stars.

“. . . Williams, a three-term senator who's running simultaneously for his legislative seat, said many issues separate him from his opponents. Williams said he prefers to invest state economic-development funds in emerging companies with a future as opposed to paying subsidies to keep companies that end up eliminating jobs anyway. . ..” Read more

Re-establishing generational jobs to end chronic unemployment and underemployment

It’s time to get serious about re-establishing jobs in Pennsylvania. And not just any job. We’re talking about generational jobs . . . in forward-looking industries like the biosciences, medical care and high technology. Let’s rebuild our communities and our economy with a revamped, highly skilled workforce across Pennsylvania. Read more >>

Taxes

Making smarter spending choices to lower tax burdens for families and businesses

High tax burdens hurt our potential and crush Pennsylvania. Families feel it with creeping property taxes. Businesses of all sizes get socked from every direction.
